The Gallery! multimedia gallery module
The Gallery! module delivers state of the art online gallery systems for display and sale of images, animations, video, and other multimedia forms. This module is a staple for the presentation of artists, photographers, commercial illustrators, art gallery online stores, animators, multimedia artists, and other gallery style web sites.
The ease of maintaining and updating the system parallels the other Arpeggio modules in simplicity, user interface, and usability. In conjunction with the freeware ImageMagick, watermarks can be automatically applied, images can automatically be resized for both thumbnails and larger view sizes, and quality download files in TIFF or other formats can be uploaded only once. With a single upload, all the needs of the online image resource can be met.
There are several formats for the gallery display available, although using the Arpeggio template system, virtually any format can be created. Thumbnail pages can be browsed using single clicks on directional arrows, or using the standard search engine page listings. Also, with complete integration with the Arpeggio Core Module, searches can be conducted on the site to display appropriate results based on a master keyword list, unique keywords, and categories, as well as by any text description associated with an image or media file.
Brief captions can be assigned, as well as detailed descriptions that appear with the larger version of the media file. All text is indexed automatically with the Core Module text spider.The sequencing of the display is also controlled, using specification tools built into the gallery system.
Uploading of media files is a simple matter of filling in a form and browsing for the file on your local computer or network. Images or other media files can be grouped in folders for easier management, and can be assigned to categories. A master keyword list allows for common keywords to be assigned, while unique keywords can be assigned as well.
The enlarged version is also derived from the single uploaded version of the media file, can be watermarked automatically, and the size can be controlled by the site administrator to accommodate the specific media type.
Again, the enlarged files can be browsed using directional links. Forward, backward, up a page or down a page are standard links on the large views. Large views open in a separate window.
Media files can be uploaded in batches or individually. Batch uploading allows the administrator to assign multiple files to the same folder, the same category, and to assign multiple keywords to all files in the batch.
Although uploading is dependant on the speed of the connection to the internet, the Gallery! module uses advanced FTP and HTTP protocols that allow fast and easy uploading. Larger batches of course take longer.
